  • Hi Sasa,

I really appreciate your comment and while I don’t consider myself an authority, I believe I know quite a lot of useful information which results in a certain level of expertise.

Anyway, speaking of learning English from movies and reading, your focus definitely should be put on learning word combinations and patterns rather than translating content on a word-by-word basis.

Your goal is to eliminate translation and perceive English speech, read in English and speak in English without involving your native language.

    A few tips:
    * always use only English – English dictionaries explaining new words using other English words and concepts
    * learn new vocabulary in context, don’t learn separate words
    * never learn various synonyms and meaning of the same word at once because it makes you analyze your speech when you speak; instead aim for learning a certain phrase or word combination containing that word
    * speak as much as you can after watching a film or reading a book – use different expressions learnt from them etc. Basically make it your habit to summarize any English content for yourself by speaking it out loud thus ensuring you develop your fluency and communication skills.

    Hope this helps a bit!

    Regards,

    Robby 😉
