Happy New Year 2017 From English Harmony!

Happy New Year 2017 my friends foreign English speakers and all my followers!

I’m wishing you a very happy, prosperous and successful New Year!

Personally for me this last year has been very challenging and full of surprises, but I can proudly say that I accomplished what I set out to do and I secured a job in the IT sector as a foreign English speaker.

Have you got similar dreams and ambitions?

Do you feel like you’re kind of stuck and you would really like to change things?
Do you plan to move to an English speaking country to study?
Do you finally want to find a better job where you can realize your full potential and also use the English language?
Or maybe you want to start your own YouTube channel about a specific topic and publish videos as a foreign English speaker?

Everything is possible.

Just set your goal for the year 2017, come up with a simple action plan and follow through with it.

Thanks so much for your comment, I’m really glad you find my blog useful and you’ve been sticking around for so long, it’s much appreciated!

Now, to your question about apps such as DuoLingo.

I gotta be totally honest with you – I hadn’t actually checked it out previously, so I dedicated a few minutes to starting a that app and doing a few intro exercises.

From what I can tell, this app indeed is based on translation between English and your target language, however, I’m not entirely sure if the same trend continues as you progress through your lessons.

What I mean by this is – it’s possible that the more advanced you get, the more they will start asking you questions in your target language gradually shifting over to it completely.

If that’s the case, such an app can indeed be a very effective tool when it comes to learning a new language.

If it’s not the case and the translation method is being applied throughout the entire course – well, as you can imagine the “translation mode” of your mind is always going to interfere with your speech and you just won’t be able to speak in your target language fluently.

I hope I could shed some light on the issue,

Hi Robby. I have been reading your blog for a few years because I find some of your ideas on language learning useful.

What is your view on apps like DuoLingo? It gets good reviews but it is very heavy on translation. I am worried it might be a problem because it might prevent me from thinking in my target language if I have to translate first.
